Ground-Breaking Settlement for Ohio Special Education Students!

Friday, November 9, 2018

gavelOn November 8, 2018, the news broke that disability advocates reached a settlement in the long-running Doe case against the State of Ohio.  While the settlement is still subject to court approval, it requires special efforts by the state for students with disabilities to improve test scores and rates of inclusion in 11 school districts.  It aims to improve academic outcomes and reduce segregation.

Other areas slated for improvement include:

  • Effective strategies to improve literacy,
  • Evidenced-based behavioral supports for students and classroom teachers, and
  • More help for students in the transition to adulthood, employment, and independent living.

For more information, please see this announcement from Disability Rights Ohio, one of the leading advocates in the case.
