Amanda M. Buzo

Attorney Amanda M. Buzo focuses her practice on the issues surrounding individuals with disabilities. She practices in the areas of estate planning, special needs trusts, guardianships, decedents’ estates, and other probate matters. Amanda works with individuals or their attorneys to provide advice regarding the impact of settlements on government benefits, such as Medicaid and Supplemental Security Income, and to probate minor, adult incompetent, or wrongful death settlements. Amanda will advise on the necessity of guardianship, special needs trusts, wrongful death trusts, qualified settlement funds, and/or Medicare and Medicaid lien resolution. She also counsels matrimonial attorneys and their clients regarding the legal impact of divorce on government benefits for spouses or children with disabilities.
Amanda often advises corporate or individual guardians and special needs trust trustees on their respective fiduciary responsibilities. She has spoken in the areas of estate planning for people with special needs, powers of attorney, guardianship, and government benefits, including Medicare Part D. Her audiences include bar associations, parent groups, hospitals, government agencies, and other professional organizations.
Amanda graduated from The Ohio State University with a B.S. in Human Ecology and a focus on financial planning. She attended law school at the University of Akron School of Law. She was a member of the law school’s Trial Team and Jessup International Moot Court, and served as a clerk for a common pleas judge and city law director.
Amanda joined the Firm as an associate in November 2005. She is a member of the Ohio State, Cleveland Metropolitan, and Lorain County Bar Associations and the Estate Planning Council of Cleveland. Amanda is also an Associate Member of the Special Needs Alliance, a national, non-profit collective of many of America’s leading disability and public benefits attorneys. Amanda was recognized as a 2010 Rising Star by Ohio Super Lawyers; a distinction offered to only 2.5% of Ohio attorneys.
