Job Title:        Assistant Bookkeeper (Part-Time (20 hours), Hourly, Non-Exempt)

Location:       Cleveland Office, 1300 E. 9th Street, Suite 1020, Cleveland, Ohio 44114

Summary:      The Assistant Bookkeeper is responsible for helping the Bookkeeper with all aspects of the firm’s day-to-day accounting and financial activity as directed by the Bookkeeper.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Record all receipts and make bank deposits for both the firm and client trust accounts.
  • Maintain chart of accounts and client trust account ledgers.
  • Conduct reconciliation of general ledger and all accounts.
  • Maintain petty cash fund in Cleveland office.
  • Prepare and process monthly client billing, per the Firm’s Billing Procedure.
  • Prepare and process bi-monthly payroll.
  • Pay firm and client invoices in a timely manner.
  • Communicate with clients and vendors via telephone and e-mail.
  • Prepare checks for signature.
  • Create and maintain AP and AR filing system.
  • Generate statements and reports, as needed.
  • Provide assistance to attorneys and paralegals regarding client bank statements and accounts.
  • Prepare and process Probate Court fee petitions.
  • Assist accountant with tax preparation.
  • Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED, Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or business administration preferred.
  • Knowledge of basic accounting and generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Excellent customer service, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Solid computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and Quicken.  Experience with PracticeMaster/TABS or similar software a plus.
  • Must pass a criminal background check.
